Today I’m gonna tell you why you need to eat more protein. Not only will protein help to build more muscle mass, but it will also help you to burn more calories, and therefore possibly lose more fat.
Let me explain. Protein has a higher thermogenic effect than carbs and fat. This means the body requires more energy, and therefore more calories in order to digest, absorb, and utilize protein. So if you combine more protein with something like resistance training, your body will build more muscle (or preserve more muscle if you’re on a cut), and can lose more bodyfat.
Personally I suggest to get at least 1.8 grams of protein per kilogram of bodyweight. So as I weigh 190 lbs, that’s 86kg, meaning I should be getting 1.5 x 86 grams of protein, which is 129 grams. That’s my minimum protein requirement per day.
Also a word of caution: If you have pre-existing issues with your kidneys, talk to your doctor before eating a high protein diet. Accoring to NASM, there’s no real evidence that a high protein diet will negatively affect your kidneys if you don’t already have a pre-existing condition.
Try it out for yourself, and let me know if it helps you to gain muscle/lose bodyfat.
Way cool! Some very valid points! I appreciate you
